‘Clough to Causey’ is an ongoing project inspired by my relationship with the Calderdale landscape.
The name reflects the varied character of terrain that I’ve come to know well as a walker and runner, from steep-sided, wooded valleys, to the high, paved moorland routes once traversed by packhorses, and everything in between.
I’m curious to better understand and develop the visual language I use to convey the rich sensory experience of spending time outdoors here on a daily basis.
Through ‘Clough to Causey’ I’m charting my progress (or lack of it!) as I experiment with methods and materials, share creative outputs and reflect on what I learn through a series of blog posts.

Jumbled-up textures of moorland and steep-sided valleys.

Playing with the idea of reflections; images disturbed by the movement of water.

It was a very muddy run.

Threading the rhythm of a repeated pattern through the suggestion of a moorland landscape.

Sky.

Heavy skies looming above darkening moorland.

Wintry moorland moments; experimenting with heavy texture and the suggestion of a horizon line.

Intricate organic textures; loosely responding to fungi on rotting wood.
Blog – the roots of Clough to Causey.
